Investigating the therapeutic effects of curcumin on inflammation and symptoms of PCOS
Taken from the Journal of reproduction & infertility -- In this research, 72 female adult rats were divided into PCOS-induced groups - control and curcumin-treated groups. After 60 days of PCOS-induction, ovaries were collected for evaluation. The study showed a significant decrease in inflammatory markers (CRP) in groups treated with curcumin compared with control groups. Furthermore, the study indicates that raising the amount of curcumin will lead to a decrease in ovarian cysts and also an increase in the number of corpus luteum, which marks the beginning of ovulation. Omega-3:
Evaluating the efficacy and safety of omega-3 in the treatment of PCOS
Taken from the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology -- A total of 45 non-obese PCOS women were studied. Women were treated with daily oral 1,500 mg of omega-3 for 6 months. During treatment, BMI, insulin levels and the degree of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) decreased. In the hormonal profile, serum luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone levels decreased and sex hormone-binding globulin levels increased significantly after the 6 months of therapy. The study also suggests that omega-3 may be also effective in improving hirsutism (excess hair growth) in women with PCOS
