- Among the most popular prenatal vitamins for PCOS
Folic acid interacts with both hormonal and metabolic pathways that may contribute to symptoms such as insulin resistance and fertility issues in women with PCOS. It has also been shown to support reproductive health, reducing symptoms such as irregular periods and infertility.
Folic acid works specifically by regulating the level of homocysteine, an amino acid that can negatively affect fertility when elevated. This makes folic acid supplementation particularly effective for improving chances of conception and reducing the risk of birth defects in a pregnancy.

Folic acid (vitamin B9) (400mcg)
Effect Of Folic Acid On Homocysteine (Hcy) In PCOS: PMID (18313674)
**Elevated Hcy levels are associated with low birth weight, fetal neural tube defects, and recurrent miscarriages. In a prospective clinical trial, 70 women with PCOS were treated with folic acid for 3 months. Of these, 32 were insulin resistant and 38 were not. In both groups Hcy concentrations were significantly decreased following folic acid supplementation.
Can Folic Acid be taken with birth control?
Should I continue it once i become pregnant?
Absolutely, it is important before and during pregnancy. When the baby is developing early during pregnancy, folic acid helps form the neural tube. Folic acid is very important because it can help prevent some major birth defects of the baby's brain (anencephaly) and spine (spina bifida).
