Eighty women with PCOS were assessed on their levels of fasting glucose, insulin, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), free testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and the insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR). For those who were given 3g of l-carnitine daily, the data showed significant improvement in insulin sensitivity, decreases in serum LDL levels, and reduced BMI after three months of treatment.
